Engineering

We have a complete range of reliable refrigeration engineering solutions that can be tailored to meet your exact requirements.

With our specialist engineering knowledge, we provide industry leading products that can deliver energy efficiency, low GWP refrigerants, heat recovery, low noise solutions and all temperature range requirements.

Whatever you require we can supply a cooling solution designed specifically to meet your project needs.

Standard Remote Systems

With our knowledge and extensive experience within the refrigeration industry, we can offer a wide range of remote refrigeration solutions for every application.

Standard remote refrigeration systems are used when your chilled or frozen equipment requires an external condensing unit. Once we gather all the information and specification regarding your installation project, our technical team will specify the necessary remote system to suit the duty required on your equipment. With our team of fully qualified engineers, we provide a professional installation of all the necessary engineering including pipe work, insulation, valves and controls using premium industry leading products.

Remote refrigeration systems are an ideal solution for environments where there is limited ventilation or space. This allows the heat rejection from the refrigeration system to be sited in a more suitable location and avoid unnecessary ambient heat. This also provides more space within your refrigeration equipment as the external condensing unit contains the compressor, condenser fan motor assembly and controls.

Refrigeration Packs

A multi-compressor pack is designed as a centralised remote refrigeration system. Due to the size and increased duty output of a refrigerated pack system, they are usually specified to run several applications from one unit.

With our extensive knowledge, our technical team can specify the right refrigeration pack dependant on the duty requirements of your equipment. With our team of fully qualified engineers, we provide a professional installation of all the necessary engineering including pipe work, insulation, valves and controls using premium industry leading products.

A standard remote system generally uses one condensing unit and if the necessary application is to run multiple items of refrigeration equipment, this could result in multiple condensing units being required. Running multiple condensing units can cause issues with the space required to site them, the noise generated and higher energy consumption.

Therefore, installing a multi-compressor refrigeration pack would be beneficial to customers who are running several refrigeration systems or have higher duty output requirements. Please see some benefits of refrigerated pack systems detailed below:

  • Reduced operating costs
  • Lower energy consumption
  • Lower maintenance costs
  • Reduced space needed to locate the plant
  • Outdoor installation

Energy Saving Solutions

With increasing energy costs, running a refrigeration system can be expensive. There are several factors which can affect the energy consumption and the efficiency of your equipment. Using our knowledge and expertise in refrigeration systems we can evaluate your equipment and provide recommendations to lower your energy consumption.

The UK is committed to achieving an 80 per cent reduction in carbon emissions by 2050. In the UK, it is estimated that business activities account for about half of all emissions, meaning companies and organisations have an overwhelming responsibility to address their energy efficiency.

In recent years refrigeration technology has made advances in reducing energy consumption with more efficient equipment and systems, therefore it may be time to upgrade you existing equipment and systems to reduce your carbon footprint and operating costs.

However, there are other more economical options available which could help your energy consumption and equipment efficiency, detailed below:

  • Install Energy Saving Fan Motors (Condenser and Evaporator Fan Motors)
  • Replace existing lighting for low energy LED lighting
  • Door Gasket / Seal efficiency (if the door is not sealing it will not create a thermal barrier and increase the internal temperature, causing the refrigeration system to use more energy)
  • Upgrading refrigeration controls
  • Replace your refrigerant for a lower Global Warming Potential or Hydrocarbon solution
  • Installing monitoring system
  • Installing doors, curtain or aero foil fins to multideck chillers
  • Installing PVC strip or insulated curtains to cold stores to reduce heat loss and air infiltration

If you wish to discuss any of our energy saving solutions or to upgrade your system to more energy efficient equipment, please do not hesitate to contact us.

F-Gas

Following the introduction of the EU F-Gas Regulation no. 517/2014 on fluorinated greenhouse gases which aims to reduce the emissions of these gases through a variety of measures. The measure introduced include rules on containment, use, recovery and destruction of fluorinated greenhouse gases, conditions on the placing on the market of certain types of products or equipment containing or relying upon fluorinated greenhouse gases (bans), specific uses of these gases (service ban), quantitative limits for the placing on the market of HFCs (phase-down).

Therefore, if you are a business which is operating refrigeration or air conditioning systems, it is your responsibility to ensure that you are compliant. Failure to adhere to the regulations can lead to prosecution and fines from the environment agency.

At J&M we have the knowledge to ensure that your business is compliant and to provide assistance with the transition to lower global warming potential refrigerants.

Due to the F-Gas regulation and eventual ban on certain refrigerants, the quantity of HFC’s placed in the EU market is decreasing year by year therefore the additional demand is causing a significant increase in high GWP (global warming potential) refrigerants.

We have the necessary expertise to provide the latest resolutions for our customers F-Gas requirements, to ensure that our customers are fully compliant and that they have the most cost-effective solutions for their current refrigeration equipment.

There are also a number of other requirements that need implementing to ensure your business is compliant under the F-Gas Regulations, as detailed below:

  • Identification if your system contains F-Gas
  • Using qualified and trained technicians
  • Equipment labelling
  • Leak checking requirements
  • Installing leak detection equipment (only required on systems containing F-Gas equivalent of more than 500 tonnes of CO2)
  • Service ban on certain F-Gas refrigerants after 2020
  • F-Gas Record Keeping for 5 years

If you needs any assistance to ensure that your business is compliant – please do not hesitate to contact us for assistance.
